WARCO OPEN WEEKEND - 11th - 12th September 2010

Plans are now well under way.  We are delighted that the Guildford Society of Model Engineers and the Liphook Modellers will be with us again to display a huge range of models and chat to visitors about the world of model engineering.  John and Liz Saunders will bring their Stanley Steam car to the event again this year.  Roy Darlington has promised that he will join us with his amazing Sterling Engines.  The SMEE will be here to discuss their courses and we hope will bring some models to show us.  Our Warco engineers will be demonstrating some of our machines and will be on hand to answer any questions.  Doug House, inventor of the incredible DH range of vices will be demonstrating his new vice and will be pleased to show visitors the amazing features of these vices.

For woodworkers, the Surrey Association of Woodturners will be demonstrating their craft, using Warco lathes and will be displaying some of their finished items.  As always, they will be happy to chat about the art of wood turning and their range of activities.

We have, so far, two trade suppliers joining: JB Tooling and College Engineering Supplies.  They will both be pleased to receive advance orders, which they can bring along for customers on the day.

More details will follow.

LATEST UPDATE:  Camden Miniature Steam will be attending the Open Weekend with an excellent selection of informative publications.

FURTHER UPDATE:  13th July 2010.  Our selection of ex demo/used machines and tooling is increasing by the day.  Among others, we have:

Dore Westbury mill.

Early belt drive lathe with huge amount of equipment

Minor mill

Harrison 140 lathe single phase.  Amazing condition.

Small shaper on stand

There will be many more machines and a huge amount of lathes and milling machines, tooling, measuring equipment and hand tools.  Rock bottom prices as we must clear this stock over the weekend to make space for our ever-increasing range of new items.

Below is a picture of Mike Buller's Trike.  The tricycle has two seats in tandem, weighs 445 kg and has a frontal area of 7 square feet.  It is powered by a 4 cylinder petrol engine of 875cc, mainly of Hillman Imp origin.  It has a Norton 4-speed motorcycle gearbox, driving the rear wheel via a chain.  Reverse is provided by an electric motor driving a roller brought into contact with the tread of the rear tyre.  The machine was built over a period of five years, and took 7,000 hours to complete.  It was certified under the Single Vehicle Approval Scheme.  All the milling required in the manufacture of its components, including the windshield supports, the structural front bulkhead, the suspension and engine components, was accompllished using a Warco Super Major Milling Drilling Machine.
